Debates and Demands: Jharkhand's Bold Financial Roadmap

The Jharkhand government made headlines on Thursday as it introduced supplementary budget demands totaling Rs 5,508 crore during its ongoing 20-day assembly session. Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore led the charge, presenting the third supplementary budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

A staggering Rs 971.80 crore has been earmarked for the Energy department, marking it as the priority, closely followed by the Rural Works department at Rs 873.29 crore, and the Home, Jail, and Disaster Management department at Rs 502.61 crore. Other notable allocations include Rs 500 crore for the Pension department and Rs 393.93 crore for the School Education and Literacy department.

Amidst the discussion, tensions flared during a debate over the Maiyan Samman Yojana. BJP MLA CP Singh grilled the government about delays in fund disbursement under the scheme. Minister Chamra Linda responded that funds for January and February would reach beneficiaries by mid-March. The assembly session, which began on February 24, is set to conclude on March 27.
