Opposition Leader Partap Singh Bajwa delivered a scathing critique of the Punjab government's financial management ahead of the 2025-26 budget, accusing them of failing to deliver on pre-election promises. Bajwa highlighted issues such as deteriorating law and order and criticized the Aam Aadmi Party for not implementing its direct bank transfer scheme for women.
During a session at the Punjab Assembly, Bajwa expressed concerns over the state's fiscal status, noting Punjab ranks 19th out of 28 states. He pointed out unfulfilled commitments, frequent administrative transfers, and highlighted the state's alarming law and order condition.
In contrast, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema presented a more optimistic outlook, unveiling a budget expenditure plan of Rs 2,36,080 crore. Cheema outlined initiatives like a 'drug census' and infrastructure development, including constructing 50 kilometers of world-class roads across major cities, as part of the state's fiscal consolidation efforts.
