The Presidents of High Court Bar Associations have made an appeal to Supreme Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, pressing for a reconsideration of Justice Yashwant Varma's transfer. The Bar Associations have petitioned for the withdrawal of his administrative duties alongside judicial responsibilities, rescinded last Thursday, to be reinstated.
A joint statement from the Bar Associations emphasized their request for retaining Justice Varma in Delhi, highlighting concerns over his transfer. Controversy erupted after a fire at the judge's residence led to the discovery of substantial cash, a claim Justice Varma strongly denies, labeling it a conspiracy against him.
Following the incident, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his transfer back to Allahabad High Court, sparking further objections. The Allahabad HC Bar Association demands a thorough examination of Justice Varma's judgments and suggests continuous oversight by the Supreme Court till the matter concludes, calling for rigorous judicial accountability.
