The New India Co-operative Bank is embroiled in a Rs 122 crore scam, with Bollywood actor Preity Zinta at the center of allegations owing to a Rs 1.55 crore loan remission. The actor, who took a loan of Rs 18 crore in 2011, saw her loan classified as a non-performing asset by 2013.
The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai police has arrested eight key suspects in connection with the scam, including former general manager Hitesh Mehta. Investigations are ongoing, with a focus on examining historical non-performing loans and possibly identifying deeper connections.
The scandal is further unraveling with upcoming forensic tests scheduled for key accused individuals, as officials seek to uncover the comprehensive web of involvement and fraudulent financial activities.
