India's Historic Surge in QS World University Rankings

India celebrates a landmark achievement as 54 of its institutions, including IIT Delhi, secure spots in the QS World University Rankings. This success, marking a 390% growth over the decade, highlights India's ascent as a global leader in higher education and research under PM Modi's administration.

The Executive Director of QS Quacquarelli Symonds, Ashwin Fernandes, highlighted India's unprecedented progress in the QS World University Rankings. A record number of 54 Indian institutions have made it to the global list, marking a significant 390% increase over the past decade. Fernandes described this as a 'historic moment' for the nation.

In an interview with ANI, Fernandes noted the remarkable rise of IIT Delhi in the QS World University Ranking 2026, where it climbed 27 places to the 123rd spot globally. He attributed this improvement to enhanced employer reputation and citation indicators, crediting the Modi government's efforts in positioning India as a global leader in higher education.

IIT Delhi has become the top-ranked institution in the country, moving up from 150th to 123rd place globally, surpassing IIT Bombay for the first time. This achievement, alongside IIT Madras's entry into the top 200, indicates a broader trend of India's strengthening presence in global academia. According to QS CEO Jessica Turner, India is rapidly evolving its higher education landscape, now ranking fourth in worldwide representation with significant new entries this year.
