In a significant event for maritime defense, the Indian Navy is set to commission the INS Tamal, a Russian-manufactured guided missile frigate, in Kaliningrad on July 1. This ship integrates advanced indigenous components, including the BrahMos missile, enhancing its strategic prowess against targets at sea and on land.
As the eighth Krivak class frigate received from Russia, INS Tamal boasts 26% indigenous technology. It's the last foreign-built warship of its kind for the Indian Navy, said officials. The commissioning will be overseen by Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh and attended by senior Indian and Russian defense representatives.
Part of the Tushil Class, the INS Tamal is a testament to Indo-Russian collaboration, equipped with advanced weaponry such as vertical launched surface-to-air missiles and cutting-edge electronic warfare systems. The ship's induction signals strategic enhancement with a commonality across four frigate classes.
