Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann engaged in a significant telephonic discussion concerning the Firozpur Feeder Reconstruction Project on Wednesday. This joint initiative is pivotal for the canal irrigation system serving northwest Rajasthan.
An official statement reveals that the Rs 647.62 crore project, intended to fortify the Gang Canal system in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh, received approval from the Central Water Commission during its 158th advisory meeting on April 24. Punjab and Rajasthan will share funding costs with contributions of Rs 379.12 crore and Rs 268.50 crore respectively.
The project aims to increase the Firozpur Feeder's capacity significantly, facilitating the retention of surplus monsoon water beneficial to over 3.14 lakh hectares of farmland. The Rajasthan government targets to commence construction this year and wrap it by 2027, bolstering irrigation, crop productivity, and the agrarian economy.
