Finland's President Alexander Stubb confirmed on Monday a discussion with U.S. President Donald Trump about Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, emphasizing Finland's support for a swift ceasefire. Stubb noted Trump's looming deadline for action and hopes for future negotiations leading to a durable peace.

The dialogue also involved discussions about icebreakers, as Trump previously indicated negotiations with Finland to buy 15 of these vessels. Stubb highlighted Finland's significant role in this industry, having constructed 60 percent of the world's icebreakers.

Trump has been a strong proponent of expanding the U.S. fleet of icebreakers, aiming for up to 40 new additions. This move is geared towards improving national security and facilitating potential resource development in the Arctic region.
