Australia has awarded Mitsubishi Heavy Industries a A$10 billion contract to supply new navy frigates. The Mogami-class was chosen over ThyssenKrupp's MEKO A-200, marking the largest defence investment since nuclear submarines in 2023. The project aims to enhance maritime security capabilities for future strategic needs.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan has secured a lucrative A$10 billion contract to deliver Australia's latest navy frigate program, as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles.
This marks a significant investment in the nation's defense capabilities, being the largest since the partnership to build nuclear submarines with the U.S. and Britain.
The advanced Mogami-class frigates, chosen over the MEKO A-200 offered by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, promise enhanced range and tactical features for maritime security.
