Tripura Police Seizes Rs 20 Lakh Worth of Burmese Cigarettes

In a major crackdown, Tripura's Kailashahar police, in a joint operation with BSF's G-branch, intercepted a vehicle carrying Burmese cigarettes worth approximately Rs 20 lakh. The consignment was discovered during a vehicle check at Chinibagan and the driver has been taken into custody.

In a significant operation, the Kailashahar Police of Tripura's Unakoti District seized a consignment of Burmese cigarettes valued at around Rs 20 lakh on Wednesday afternoon. The discovery was made during a routine vehicle check at the Chinibagan naka point.

The operation, headed by the Officer-in-Charge of Kailashahar Police Station, Tapas Malakar, involved a collaboration with the Border Security Force's G-branch. The police intercepted a Bolero vehicle with registration TR03F0799, which was traveling from Dharmanagar to Kailashahar, and found 39 cartons containing 3.39 lakh sticks of Burmese cigarettes hidden inside.

The driver, Sudip Nath, hailing from Tilthai village in North Tripura, is now in police custody. Tapas Malakar stated that the seized contraband has an estimated black market value of about Rs 20 lakh. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origins and intended recipients of the smuggled cigarettes.
