In a decisive legislative session, the Lok Sabha gave its nod to the Manipur Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2025, and the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The appropriation bill aims to authorize payment and allocation of funds from the Consolidated Fund of Manipur for fiscal year 2025-26.

Despite opposition demands for discussion on electoral rolls in Bihar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the bills in the Lok Sabha. Parliament also extended the President's Rule in Manipur beyond August 13, with a statutory resolution. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha's passage of the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025, amidst opposition slogans, marks significant maritime legislative progress.

The Coastal Shipping Bill, championed by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, promises to overhaul the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958. By simplifying legal frameworks, it aligns with global standards, boosting India's coastal cargo capabilities and contributing to the broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The bill introduces a new licensing system and a strategic plan for coastal and inland shipping infrastructure.
