The District Magistrate of South Delhi has announced a new regulation mandating the installation of CCTV cameras in all pharmacies across the national capital. This initiative aims to curb the illegal sale of dual-use medicines without valid prescriptions, with a particular focus on Schedule H, H1, and X drugs, which are prone to misuse if not properly supervised.

Under the order, CCTV footage from pharmacies will be subject to random inspections by officials from the District Drug Control Authority, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, or Police Officers at any time. Non-compliant establishments face legal repercussions, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates have been tasked with enforcing strict adherence to the new rule, alongside police and drug inspectors.

Meanwhile, the All-India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) has voiced serious concerns about the operations of online pharmacy platforms. Allegations include violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940, posing risks to public health. AIOCD reported a lack of effective action from State Licensing Authorities and has urged the Drug Controller General of India to crackdown on illegal online pharmacies and retract outdated regulations exploited by these platforms.
