L&T Powers Forward: Major Grid Orders Secured in Middle East

Larsen & Toubro's power transmission sector has secured significant grid infrastructure orders in the Middle East, valued between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 5,000 crore. The projects involve establishing a 400 kV interconnection in the GCC and constructing 132kV substations and transmission lines to support regional energy demands.

Larsen & Toubro's power transmission and distribution arm recently announced securing 'large' grid infrastructure contracts across the Middle East. These contracts, classified as 'large' by the firm, bear financial implications between Rs 2,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore.

The 400kV super grid interconnection facilitates increased efficiency in electricity distribution among the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, boosting overall network resilience. Currently, Oman's electricity grid is linked to the GCC interconnection through the UAE at 220kV, with plans for a direct interconnection at 400 kV pending.

L&T's recent orders include engineering and constructing a pivotal 400 kV substation in the UAE and building new 132kV substations in the region to meet rising electricity demands. In Saudi Arabia, the company will handle turnkey construction of 380 kV overhead lines integrating renewable energy plants. The multinational firm runs a diverse portfolio spanning engineering and technology projects worldwide.
