The Turkish-owned oil tanker Mersin experienced four external explosions while anchored near Senegal's coast last week. Despite the blasts, no injuries or pollution occurred, as confirmed by its manager, Besiktas Shipping, on Monday.
The explosions took place at 2345 GMT on November 27, allowing seawater to enter the vessel's engine room. The cause remains unclear, though the situation was brought under control quickly, ensuring all crew members' safety and securing the vessel.
The incident occurred shortly before Ukrainian naval activities targeted other tankers in the region, though no Ukrainian link to the Mersin explosion has emerged. Authorities, alongside Senegal's navy, are working to prevent further consequences and support ongoing investigations.
