In a significant development, the Indian Navy has strengthened its aerial capabilities amidst ongoing tensions with the commissioning of its second MH-60R helicopter squadron. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi confirmed these helicopters played a crucial role during Operation Sindoor, a response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Goa, Adm Tripathi emphasized the squadron's contribution to combat readiness, notably enhancing anti-submarine warfare. The MH-60R's versatility extends to anti-surface warfare and maritime surveillance, bolstering the Navy's operational capabilities in the region.
The introduction of this squadron at INS Hansa marks a pivotal step in modernizing the Navy's aviation assets, with a fleet expansion underway via a deal with the US for 24 more MH-60R helicopters, designed for all-weather, multi-role operations on the Western Seaboard.
