In a significant political development, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to elect its new National President today. The nomination process, currently underway at the party headquarters in Delhi, forms part of the Sangathan Parv event. This ceremony is anticipated to showcase the party's solidarity with chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, state unit heads, and senior leaders present in the capital.
The electoral nomination process is scheduled from 2 pm to 4 pm, followed by scrutiny between 4 pm and 5 pm. Candidates can withdraw nominations from 5 pm to 6 pm, and the national election officer is set to release a press statement at 6:30 pm. Nitin Nabin, BJP's National Working President, is filing his nomination for the top post, supported by influential figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Expect him to be elected unopposed, making Nabin the party's youngest national president.
The party's electoral college, comprising representatives from the national and state councils, will finalize the choice. BJP's constitution requires a candidate to be jointly proposed by at least 20 state electoral college members and maintain a minimum of 15 years of party membership. The formal announcement is expected on January 20, 2026. Nabin's elevation indicates a generational shift within the party, welcomed for injecting new energy and unity as the BJP readies for pivotal upcoming elections.
