Wildlife Conservation Balances Development in NBWL Meeting

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav presided over the 88th session of the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife (SC-NBWL) in New Delhi. The meeting evaluated 70 proposals concerning public services, defence, and infrastructure within protected areas, adhering to the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
Focused discussions examined ecological sensitivities, legal mandates, and vital community services. Notable public utility projects included the Jal Jeevan Mission's drinking water supply, health centers, road expansions, 4G towers, and transmission lines.
Among the reviewed items were irrigation projects in Madhya Pradesh and Bundelkhand, benefiting both human populations and wildlife habitats. Defence proposals, centered in Ladakh and Sikkim, emphasized secure infrastructure under wildlife regulations. Policy and process advancements, such as PARIVESH portal enhancements, were also reviewed.
