President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday highlighted the government's commitment to prosperous farmers as a cornerstone of 'Viksit Bharat', citing a record 350 million tonnes of foodgrain production, including 150 million tonnes of rice - the highest globally. India also emerges as the second-largest fish producer, reflecting successes in the Blue Economy.
The President, addressing Parliament at the start of the Budget session, noted the satisfaction driven by efforts to empower youth, farmers, and entrepreneurs in nation-building. She underlined initiatives like the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, which has transferred over Rs 4 lakh crore directly to farmers to boost agricultural prosperity.
Murmu detailed strategies aimed at self-reliance through the National Missions on Edible Oils, Oilseeds, and Pulses, linking farmers to fisheries and beekeeping for economic growth. This agrarian push includes the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, attracting over Rs 1.25 lakh crore in private investment, and modern technological initiatives like 'Namo Drone Didi' for empowering women in farming.
