Historic Bascule Bridge at Kolkata Port Set for Modernisation
The Union Ministry has approved a Rs 117.54 crore project for the renovation of the Bascule Bridge at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata. The upgrade, funded partly by the Sagarmala Programme, aims to enhance operational efficiency and safety for cargo and vehicular movement.

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, has greenlit a Rs 117.54 crore project to overhaul the historic Bascule Bridge at Kolkata's Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port.
The decision was taken following an evaluation by the Delegated Investment Board led by the Ministry's Secretary, after a comprehensive review, the Ministry revealed.
The modernisation will be executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited and aim to improve safety and efficiency by upgrading the bridge structurally and electro-mechanically.
