Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has reassured citizens that both the state and central governments are actively working to secure sufficient LPG supplies amidst a national shortage triggered by the West Asia conflict. Measures include increased domestic production and strict regulations to curtail black marketing.
The crisis has led to a 30% reduction in India's gas supply, prompting the oil ministry to shift gas allocations from non-essential sectors to vital ones like household and transport. BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to address the issue, while enforcing the Essential Services Maintenance Act to prevent hoarding.
The hospitality industry, represented by Sanghamitra Mukherjee of the Hotel and Restaurant Association, warned of significant impacts on eateries and potential job losses. The association has requested government intervention to prevent supply disruptions and price hikes of commercial LPG cylinders.
