Tensions Surge: Iranian Missile Hits QatarEnergy Oil Tanker

An Iranian cruise missile struck an oil tanker leased by QatarEnergy in Qatari waters, according to the nation's defense ministry. Despite sustaining damage, the tanker reported no casualties or environmental impact. This incident highlights increasing threats to regional maritime traffic amid escalating U.S.-Israel conflicts with Iran.

An oil tanker leased by state-owned QatarEnergy was struck by an Iranian cruise missile on Wednesday in Qatari waters, the nation's defense ministry reported.

Qatar was targeted by three cruise missiles originating from Iran. While two were intercepted, the third missile struck the Aqua 1 fuel oil tanker. No casualties were reported, and damage was confined above the waterline without environmental impact, confirmed by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and QatarEnergy.

This attack underscores growing threats to maritime traffic as the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran escalates throughout the region. Iran has launched a series of attacks on Gulf oil facilities following Israeli strikes on its gas infrastructure. The war has already diminished 17% of Qatar's LNG export capacity, jeopardizing supplies to Europe and Asia.
