India paid homage to former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar on his birth anniversary, marking the event with tributes that highlight his significant contributions to the nation's political landscape. Union Minister Giriraj Singh emphasized Shekhar's reputation as a 'Young Turk' and his staunch opposition to poor governance, describing him as a fearless leader.

Echoing similar sentiments, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary applauded Shekhar's dynamic political career, which served as an inspiration for young Indians. Born on April 17, 1927, Shekhar held the office of India's prime minister from November 1990 to June 1991, leading a faction of the Janata Dal with Congress support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute, noting the commencement of Shekhar's centenary year as an opportunity to renew commitments towards a just and prosperous India. Describing Shekhar as a mass leader with strong convictions, Modi recounted personal interactions with Shekhar and encouraged Indian youth to learn from his remarkable life and vision.
