BJP Pushes Delimitation Bill: A Controversial Legislative Move

BJP leader Boora Narsaiah Goud lauded the Delimitation Bill for allocating seats in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), allowing representation in India's Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Ongoing debates include women's reservation in parliament. The Opposition raises concerns, particularly about reduced southern representation and the methodology linked to the 2011 census.

BJP leader Boora Narsaiah Goud emphasized the Delimitation Bill's importance, particularly regarding seat allocation in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This provision, he claims, facilitates voting rights for PoK residents and potential representation in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, in line with India's aspirations.

The Lok Sabha recently engaged in an extensive 12-hour debate over modifications to the women's reservation bill. This legislation, which achieved 251 AYES against 185 NOES, aims to ensure representation without waiting for a post-census implementation.

While the Lok Sabha is poised to vote on several related bills, including the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, extending women's reservation by 33%, and the Delimitation Bill which plans to expand constituencies to 850, opposition voices express apprehension about changes possibly diminishing southern state representation.
