Fraud Uncovered in UK's Energy Efficiency Scheme

Authorities in Britain have arrested four individuals and searched six addresses over a suspected £44 million fraud tied to a government energy efficiency initiative. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is investigating companies allegedly submitting false claims. The case forms part of a nationwide effort to combat fraud.

British authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with a suspected £44 million fraud relating to a government energy efficiency scheme aimed at alleviating fuel poverty, according to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

The SFO has appealed to the public for information on three companies—Warmfront, JJ Crump, and South Coast Insulation Services—allegedly involved in submitting bogus claims with limited or no work performed from 2022 to 2024.

This investigation is part of Operation Henhouse, a campaign to combat fraud across the UK. The scheme, known as Energy Company Obligation 4 (ECO4), is designed to help energy suppliers support households in reducing consumption and heating expenses. ECO4 began in July 2022.
