West Bengal finds itself at the center of a constitutional and political standoff following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) historic triumph in the state assembly elections. Outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ignited controversy by rejecting calls for her resignation despite the BJP securing a dominant two-thirds majority.

The election results, which saw the BJP soar to 207 seats while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was reduced to 80, represent a major shift in Bengal's political dynamics. However, the transition appears fraught with tension. Addressing the media, a resolute Banerjee accused the Election Commission (EC) and the BJP of "looting" the democratic process, asserting that her party, despite the numbers, is the moral victor.

Amid mounting controversy over her refusal to resign as Chief Minister, Banerjee referred to herself as a "free bird" committed to strengthening the INDIA Alliance nationally. While the BJP prepares for a grand swearing-in ceremony, coinciding with Guru Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary, the electoral process's legitimacy remains a contentious issue in Bengal's new chapter.
