Nibe Aeronautics has entered into a Letter of Intent with De Havilland Canada to procure Twin Otter amphibious aircraft, a significant development for regional aviation and seaplane connectivity in India. The accord, inked in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 23 in Shirdi, aims to fortify tourism and last-mile air access under the UDAN and RCS visions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nibe Aeronautics aligns its mission with India's national goals, having previously collaborated with Israel's Elbit Systems to establish a manufacturing facility for advanced energetic materials in India. The move echoes the government's 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives, fostering strategic defence production through private sector involvement. A new company is envisioned to produce critical defence products.
In a parallel development, a Defence Manufacturing Complex by NIBE Group was inaugurated in Shirdi, with Singh highlighting its potential to meet the operational needs of India's defence forces. He underscored the shift from reliance on public sector units to encouraging private entities, predicting that future military success will hinge on technological advancements rather than sheer force size, a point demonstrated in modern global conflicts.
