SIT Challenges SGPC Over Missing Guru Granth Sahib Saroops

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Punjab is intensifying its probe into the disappearance of 328 sacred saroops of Guru Granth Sahib. Despite 16 arrests, the investigation faces hurdles due to alleged non-cooperation from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in providing original documents.

The Punjab government's Special Investigation Team (SIT) intensified its probe into the alleged disappearance of 328 sacred saroops of Guru Granth Sahib by visiting the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) office in Chandigarh. The team aimed to obtain crucial documents to advance the investigation.

Superintendent of Police Gurbans Singh Bains disclosed on Thursday that 16 individuals were apprehended in connection with the case. He emphasized that efforts to gather original documents from SGPC have been met with resistance, hindering the investigation process.

SP Bains highlighted that despite repeated requests, the SGPC provided only photocopies of critical documents. He noted that original documents are essential for the inquiry, and as a result, the SIT is considering seeking intervention from the court to compel SGPC to comply with document requests.
