The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) intensified its probe into a signature forgery scandal involving the Trinamool Congress by visiting the Kolkata residence of party leader Mamata Banerjee on Monday. Banerjee, currently in the national capital, was part of the recent INDIA bloc meeting.
Last week, the CID team visited TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's residence as part of an inquiry into alleged forgeries of party legislators' signatures. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to thoroughly investigate the case, which aims to uncover suspected document manipulation.
The investigation comes after complaints from three legislators denying their signatures in a TMC meeting resolution book. Abhishek Banerjee has submitted the required party resolution documents to the authorities, amidst allegations and a subsequent case lodged under sections related to forgery and conspiracy. In a move reacting to the allegations, TMC suspended two MLAs for anti-party activities.
