Ministries of I&B and AYUSH Gear Up for International Day of Yoga 2024

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) and the Ministry of AYUSH have kicked off preparations for the organization of International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024. Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of I&B, and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH, reviewed media and outreach activities for the upcoming IDY 2024, which is celebrated annually on 21st June.
Various media units under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting are gearing up to organize a diverse range of program activities aimed at creating awareness about the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) and highlighting the benefits of practicing Yoga. Key activities are planned by units including the Press Information Bureau, Prasar Bharati, New Media Wing, among others.
Public Service Broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, will broadcast and telecast various programs through Doordarshan (DD)/All India Radio (AIR) Network. Doordarshan will air programs and interviews with Yoga experts, along with special LIVE morning shows.

The Ministry of AYUSH has prepared a 'Yoga Geet' (Yoga Song) to be shared across all media platforms.
The Ministry of I&B will continue encouraging private media organizations with the Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS). This initiative recognizes the contribution of Media Houses/Companies in spreading the message of Yoga. Awards will be presented for categories including Best Media Coverage in Yoga in Newspaper, TV, and Radio.
The New Media Wing (NMW) will conduct activities such as the 'Yoga with Family' contest and a 'Yoga Quiz - Guess the Aasan.' The IDY 2024 Podcast will also be released.
Various Media Units and Organizations of the Ministry of I&B will organize sessions/workshops on yoga as a run-up to IDY. Yoga camps, seminars, etc., will also be conducted this year to promote yoga and wellness among employees.
The celebration of IDY has been growing every year since its recognition, with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi leading efforts to take Yoga to the world. Last year, on the 9th International Day of Yoga, a Guinness World Record was set with 135 nations participating in the celebrations. The event was also celebrated with new initiatives, including naval personnel from 34 countries participating in yoga demonstrations and grassroots initiatives like 'Har Aangan Yoga,' connecting with rural communities.
