Tanzania is putting up the effort in association with Kenya in setting up nuclear cardiology services for diagnosing and treating complications related to heart conditions. The service has been commenced by Tanzania's Dar es Salaam-based Ocean Road Cancer Institute. Whereas, Nairobi-located Aga Khan University's Department of Radiology is also specialized in offering these services.

According to Dr. Julius Mwaiselage, executive director of Ocean Road Cancer Institute, this technology has not only plenty of advantages, but lots of patients within and from neighboring nations are also getting benefits from the newly introduced services at the Institute. Each of the two nuclear cardiology machines at ORCI has the capacity to serve at least 20 patients per day, as reported by The East African.

Nuclear medicine is slowly gaining momentum: For example, this year the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) helped Uganda restart a vital radiotherapy services machine and nuclear cardiology machine that has not started operating as yet, following the breakdown of the only radiotherapy machine in 2016 that was serving over 34 million people, the website noted.
