Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled plans to create 75,000 new medical seats in India over the next five years. He made this announcement during his address to the nation on the 78th Independence Day from the Red Fort.

Highlighting the issue of students traveling abroad for education, Modi noted that despite an increase to nearly one lakh medical seats in the past decade, many middle-class families are still burdened by the high costs of foreign medical education.

The Union Health Ministry also reported that the number of medical colleges in India has increased by 88 percent from 2014 to 2024. MBBS seats have risen by 118 percent and PG seats by 133 percent in the same period.
