'We want justice' slogans filled the air as thousands of doctors from major hospitals protested outside Nirman Bhawan on Friday, demanding protection for medics and justice for a trainee doctor murdered in Kolkata.

Maulana Azad Road was blocked as numerous doctors, wearing black bands, held signs and chanted slogans. Mansi, a doctor from Lady Hardinge Medical College, questioned safety for medics, saying, 'She was at her workplace when she was raped and murdered.'

Protesters caused traffic disruptions by sitting on the road, while a delegation of doctors met government officials to discuss their demands for a central protection Act for healthcare workers.
