Medics Continue Strike Over Trainee Doctor's Tragic Death

Medics conducted a symbolic protest outside the Health Ministry office in Nirman Bhawan, offering outpatient services on the road. The ongoing strike is in response to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The Federation of All India Medical Association continues to demand safer conditions and a fast investigation.

On Monday, medics staged a symbolic protest by offering free elective outpatient services on the road outside the Health Ministry office in Nirman Bhawan, marking the eighth day of their ongoing strike over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Despite multiple meetings, no breakthrough was achieved in talks with the government.

Protesting doctors displayed sheets of paper showing their names and specialisations like ORTHO OPD, Neurology OPD, and Psychiatry OPD. The doctors' strike will continue, as the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) confirmed that Monday's meeting with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) concluded without an agreement.

FAIMA President Rohan Krishnan stressed that the strike aims for the safety of female doctors and justice for the victim. He highlighted that although hospital emergency services are functioning, elective OPD services were provided outside the ministry office to ensure patient care. However, no patients arrived during the protest. The demands include a fast CBI investigation, a Central Protection Act, and better security in medical institutes and colleges.
