EU to Scrutinize Danish Studies Linking Ozempic to Rare Eye Disease
The European Union's drug regulator is evaluating two recent Danish studies connecting Novo Nordisk's diabetes medication, Ozempic, to an increased risk of a rare eye disease. The European Medicines Agency is reviewing if these findings suggest a significant association with NAION, despite prior studies showing inconclusive results.

The European Union's drug regulator has announced plans to evaluate two new studies from Denmark that link Novo Nordisk's widely-used diabetes treatment, Ozempic, to a rare eye condition.
The studies, released earlier this week, indicate that patients with type 2 diabetes using Ozempic could face a more than doubled risk of developing NAION, a rare form of optical neuropathy.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) stated on Tuesday that although previous research hadn't strongly correlated Ozempic with the eye disease, the latest Danish studies might offer critical insights worth examining further.
