The Karnataka government is poised to increase the retirement age of doctors in super-speciality hospitals from 60 to 65 years. This initiative, spearheaded by Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, seeks to leverage the expertise of experienced medical professionals.

Addressing concerns from senior doctors at Jayadeva Institute, who lamented the limited years available for practice after decades of education and training, Patil confirmed intentions to discuss the change with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The minister also announced plans to implement the Jeevana Sanjivini insurance scheme for doctors.

In a bid to bolster healthcare services, Patil revealed that funds would be allocated to Jayadeva Hospital for robotic surgery and other advancements, including new operation theatres for pediatric cardiac surgery and modern digital infrastructure.
