Udupi nurse Shivakumar Shettigar emerged victorious when awarded Rs 13.49 lakh in compensation following an erroneous Hepatitis C diagnosis that dashed his job prospects in Saudi Arabia.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission found the National CT Scanner and Diagnostic Center in Mangaluru at fault. Shettigar, intending to work for United Medical Response, had been inaccurately diagnosed, preventing his employment overseas.
Shettigar confirmed a negative status through subsequent testing and sought redress for the misdiagnosis's impact. Compensation covers lost wages and emotional trauma, with damages bearing a 6% annual interest should payment delay occur.
