A protest unfolded at a major government hospital following the death of 52-year-old Hijam Ongbi Ibecha, who allegedly died due to medical malpractice. Her family asserts that the administration of an incorrect injection resulted in heart failure.
Attempts to contact doctors at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for comments were unsuccessful. Relatives and local residents from Sekmai, the patient's hometown, rallied at the RIMS premises, calling for justice and the dismissal of those responsible for her death.
The family has refused to retrieve the body until actions are taken against the culpable medical personnel. While addressing the media, the deceased's sister accused the hospital of negligence, suggesting her sister's life could have been saved with proper care. Though the protest escalated, security has been tightened, and authorities report the situation is now under control.
