Senegal has identified its first case of mpox for 2024, detected in a foreign man who recently arrived in the country. The revelation was made by the health ministry, marking the first reported instance this year.

According to the health ministry's statement, the patient remains in stable condition under isolation and is receiving necessary treatment. Twenty-five individuals are currently being monitored, though no new cases have emerged since the initial diagnosis.

Mpox primarily spreads through close contact. Although it is generally mild, mpox can be fatal in rare instances, presenting flu-like symptoms and causing pus-filled lesions. The World Health Organization had previously declared it a global public health emergency due to outbreaks in regions like the Democratic Republic of Congo.
