The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a significant crackdown on medical stores involved in the illicit sale of intoxicant tablets in Nanded district. Officials announced that licenses of 13 stores have been permanently revoked, while those of 32 have been temporarily suspended.
The FDA targeted a total of 48 stores during this operation, issuing show-cause notices for selling the intoxicant tablets without the requisite doctor's prescription, a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. According to Assistant Commissioner (Drugs) AT Rathod, explanations from the accused stores were deemed unsatisfactory, leading to these decisive actions.
The investigation is ongoing, with further proceedings scheduled against three additional medical stores. Meanwhile, some affected stores have secured temporary reprieves through government-level stay orders, delaying enforcement until higher authorities deliver a final verdict.
