Gilgit City Contractors Protest Against Corruption in Tender Allotments

Public contractors in Gilgit City protested against corrupt practices in tender allotments by the Public Works Department officials in Pakistan-Occupied Gilgit Baltistan. They accused the officials of awarding contracts without following proper procedures and urged the chief secretary to take immediate action.

In Gilgit City, public contractors staged a protest outside the Public Works Department office, alleging that corrupt officials were awarding tenders without adhering to proper procedures. The protest, which took place on Tuesday, saw contractors voicing their discontent over rampant corruption within the PWD.

Contractors expressed frustration over being frequently informed that tenders had already been allotted by the time they applied. A contractor told WTV, a local news source, 'We don't understand how these rules apply differently to us. We urge the chief secretary to take action and remove these corrupt officials immediately.'

Another contractor highlighted a recently cancelled contract for developmental projects in Jutial, which was later found to have been secretly allotted. 'They are now acting like kings of PoGB, awarding contracts as they please without following rules,' he said. Contractors demanded immediate removal of the officials involved.

Accusations were also made that the corrupt practices were blamed on the CM of PoGB. Contractors, however, expressed their faith in the chief secretary to address the issue promptly.
