NEPRA Approves Electricity Tariff Hike in Pakistan
Pakistan's NEPRA has approved a significant increase in electricity tariffs, affecting most consumers. Households using up to 200 units are temporarily exempt. New rates vary based on consumption, impacting users across the country.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) of Pakistan has approved the government's request to raise the basic electricity tariff by up to PKR 7.12 per unit, according to ARY News. This tariff increase will impact consumers nationwide, with an exemption for households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month for the next three months.
The notification specifies that consumers using 201 to 300 units per month will now pay PKR 34.26 per unit, reflecting an increase of PKR 7.12. Those consuming between 301 and 400 units will experience a rate hike of PKR 7.02, bringing their rate to PKR 39.15 per unit, as reported by ARY News.
For users consuming between 401 and 500 units, the rate will rise by PKR 6.12 to PKR 41.36 per unit. The tariff for 501 to 600 units will go up by PKR 6.12 to PKR 42.78 per unit, and for those consuming between 601 and 700 units, the rate will increase by PKR 6.12 to PKR 43.92 per unit. Consumers exceeding 700 units per month will see their tariff rise by PKR 6.12 to PKR 48.84 per unit. Lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month will continue to pay PKR 3.95 per unit, while those consuming between 51 and 100 units will maintain a rate of PKR 7.74 per unit.
NEPRA has sent a notification to the federal government about the tariff increase, and an official notification from the government is expected soon. The tariff hike will be uniformly applied across the country, including Karachi, to ensure standardized rates for all regions. (ANI)
