In the wake of an assassination attempt on Donald Trump last week, President Joe Biden expressed grave concerns about gun violence in America. He stated that gunshot wounds are the leading cause of death among American children, a situation he described as 'stunning and sick.'
Speaking at the NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas, Biden urged for the removal of weapons from American streets. 'If you want to stand against violence in America, then join me in getting these weapons of war off the streets,' he said, while heavily criticizing Trump's prior policies.
Biden accused Trump of attempting to repeal Obamacare, resulting in millions of Black Americans losing their health insurance, and implementing a tax cut that primarily benefited the wealthy. He also criticized Trump's handling of the pandemic, which he said disproportionately harmed Black communities.
Biden quoted Harry Truman, saying, 'I've never delivered giving anyone hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell,' to underline his criticism of Trump's presidency. As the presidential elections approach, Trump has chosen JD Vance as his running mate. While Biden launched his re-election campaign in April 2023, Trump aims to reclaim the White House, seeking to become the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms.
