A failed assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden's decision to opt out of the 2024 race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, have intensified the political landscape in the United States. Biden described his withdrawal as being in the 'best interest' of the Democratic Party.
Harsh Vardhan Shringla, India's former ambassador to the US, emphasized that regardless of the election outcome, bipartisan support for India-US relations remains strong. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shringla remarked, 'We in India are confident that our relationship with the US will continue to thrive, irrespective of whether it's under Republican or Democrat rule.'
Shringla also noted that the 2024 election would likely be a bruising contest between Trump and Harris. He added that the strategic partnership between India and the US would remain a priority for both countries. 'Our relationship will undoubtedly strengthen, continuing to be a focal point in US policy,' said Shringla.
