In a prelude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia for the 16th BRICS summit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri underscored India's pivotal role within the alliance. He emphasized that India brings substantial value to BRICS, particularly in economic growth, sustainable development, and reforming global governance frameworks.

During a media briefing, Misri informed that the Prime Minister will depart for Kazan to participate in the summit, themed 'Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,' at President Vladimir Putin's invitation. As a founding BRICS member, India's involvement has been crucial since the group's inception.

Highlighting India's viewpoint, Misri said BRICS is crucial for global multi-polarity and addressing global challenges. The summit, the first since BRICS expanded last year, begins on October 22 with key sessions on October 23. Leaders aim to adopt the Kazan Declaration, setting a future path for BRICS, before concluding on October 24.
