In a courtroom charged with tension, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, accused of the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, made a shackled appearance in New York City on Friday, as reported by CNN. He donned a bulletproof vest over a green sweater, reflecting the gravity of the allegations against him.

Despite pleading not guilty to state charges, Mangione has yet to enter a plea on federal murder charges concerning Thompson's tragic death, which occurred as Thompson walked to a hotel for UnitedHealthcare's annual investor conference in Midtown Manhattan on December 4. Prosecutors have armed Mangione's defense with a trove of evidence, including body camera footage, police reports, surveillance videos, and DNA testing materials, yet some key materials remain undisclosed.

Judge Gregory Carro scheduled Mangione's subsequent court date for June 26, setting deadlines for motions from his legal team. Attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo emphasized the push for thorough access to evidence as federal prosecutors deliberate on pursuing the death penalty. Agnifilo argues that Mangione's constitutional rights were compromised during his arrest in Pennsylvania, pointing to potential suppression of seized evidence.
