The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for seizing the Jaffar Express train in Pakistan, capturing its passengers and crew as hostages. In a chilling declaration on Tuesday, the group threatened to execute the captives if Pakistani military operations against them persist.
The train, carrying approximately 400 passengers, was traveling from Quetta in Balochistan to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when armed militants opened fire, wounding the train's driver and taking control of the nine-carriage convoy. In an ensuing confrontation, Pakistani ground forces attempted to retake control but were repelled by BLA fighters, forcing a retreat even as helicopter and drone airstrikes continued.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch warned of dire consequences if the aerial strikes did not stop, emphasizing that over 100 hostages remained in their custody. Meanwhile, the Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency, mobilizing all available resources to address the escalating crisis.
