Authorities in Nepal have detained 51 people, including prominent political figures, in connection with violent pro-monarchy protests that erupted in Kathmandu. Among the arrested are Rabindra Mishra, a senior vice-chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and other influential activists, as reported by the Kathmandu Post. This unrest led to a temporary curfew in affected areas, although it has since been lifted.

Efforts to locate Durga Prasai, the elusive 'chief commander' of the royalist movement, as described by officials, are underway as his mobile phone remains off. Security forces are on high alert to preempt further unrest. Government officials have expressed concerns over potential demonstrations led by pro-monarchy and pro-Hindu groups, reflecting on the tense situation in Kathmandu.

During a recent cabinet meeting, the Nepal government expressed strong disapproval of the violence, notably discussing the unsettling security conditions after protests in the Tinkune area. The protestors called for the monarchy's reinstatement and Nepal to become a 'Hindu state.' Despite the initial support, government sources indicate that endorsements for the royalists have waned significantly after acts of vandalism and loss of life.

Leaders of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have criticized the police's actions, labeling the arrests as unjustified. In contrast, security agencies argue that their response was necessary given that protestors had breached security barricades, leading to the chaos and destruction across the city. The violence during the demonstration resulted in damage to public and private properties and the tragic death of two people, including a journalist.
