India Unveils Development Projects for Global South Under UN Initiative

India launches four development projects under the 'India-UN Global Capacity Building Initiative' supporting the Global South's Sustainable Development Goals. Under the programme, specialized training through ITEC will aid countries like Nepal and Zambia under UN partnership, enhancing development partnerships and training efforts.

India has embarked on a significant international collaboration by launching the first set of four projects under the 'India-UN Global Capacity Building Initiative.' This effort aims to support nations in the Global South in their pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A ceremony marked the official launch at the Ministry of External Affairs, with Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal presiding.

The initiative was initially announced by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York, September 2023. The program represents a notable collaboration between the Ministry of External Affairs and the UN team in India, focused on planning and implementing SDG-focused projects.

The initiative enhances India's renowned Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, offering substantial training opportunities. In collaboration with UN agencies, the program's first phase will address specific development needs in countries such as Nepal, Zambia, and others, utilizing India's ITEC framework to deliver extensive training and support.
