India Revives UNGA Representation with Diverse MP Delegation

A diverse delegation of Indian MPs has arrived in New York to partake in the UNGA, led by BJP's PP Chaudhary. This initiative underscores India's commitment to bipartisan participation and parliamentary diplomacy, involving 30 MPs from various political parties scheduled across two separate UN sessions in October.

A diverse delegation of Indian parliamentarians has arrived in New York City to partake in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled for Tuesday (local time). The initial group, led by BJP MP and Chairperson of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on One Nation One Election, PP Chaudhary, consists of 15 representatives from various political parties. Their stay extends from October 8 to 14.

A subsequent group of 15 MPs is slated to attend the UNGA at the end of October, ensuring a comprehensive representation of India's political spectrum. The initiative marks India's renewed focus on bipartisan engagement in international forums, allowing MPs to participate in UN sessions and engage directly with India's Permanent Mission. This represents India's increased global role and commitment to parliamentary diplomacy.

Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai emphasized the inclusive nature of the "unofficial" delegation, which includes leaders from multiple parties, providing balanced parliamentary representation. Noteworthy members in the first group include P P Chaudhary, Anil Baluni, and Dr. Nishikant Dubey among others. Past delegations included prominent figures like LK Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, reviving a tradition that had halted since 2004.
