Modi and Kuwait Emir Discuss West Asia Tensions Amid US-Iran Straits Standoff
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Meshal discussed increasing tensions in West Asia. Modi emphasized dialogue for peace and appreciated Kuwait's efforts for Indian expatriates' safety. Meanwhile, US President Trump stated that discussions with Iran were progressing, and a deal could soon open the Strait of Hormuz.
In a crucial diplomatic conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, held discussions focusing on the escalating security concerns in West Asia, as noted by the Prime Minister's Office.
Expressing profound apprehension over the recent rise in tensions, Modi reiterated India's firm denouncement of any violations against Kuwait’s sovereignty. He urged for de-escalation via dialogue and diplomacy to promptly restore peace. Modi also expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s efforts in safeguarding the extensive Indian diaspora within its borders.
This telephonic dialogue coincides with US President Donald Trump’s assurance that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will persist until a comprehensive agreement with Tehran is reached. Trump, speaking after an NBA Finals game, revealed optimism about the potential for a diplomatic breakthrough in the coming days.
